O'Neill Highland Open

Adam Melling has surfed thru to the final 16 of the O'Neill Highland Open. This is the sort of result he needs for his tilt at '09 WCT qualification. Good luck next round Mello.

UPDATE 30.4
Adam Melling has won his way thru to the Quarter Finals in Scotland in chilly 2'-3' waves. Big points are on offer from here on, so smash it Mello !

UPDATE 30.4
Adam has finished 2nd to fellow Aussie Adam Robertson at the O'Neill Highland Open in chilly inconsistent 2'-3'waves overnight.
“I’ve been doing well here in the past couple of years and I really love the waves,” “Pretty stoked with this result, it is a big step on the ratings and this one gives me a lot of confidence to push it further this year. I was stoked to surf against Adam and he just got the better set waves and deserves to take the win.”
This result gives Mello 2625 WQS ratings points and really sets up a shot at the WCT. Congratulations Mello !!

Walshy fell just short of making the finals and repeating his great performance of last year at the Air Tahiti Nui Von Zipper Trials in Tahiti. Walshy was defeated in an incredible quarter final by Damien Wills. Perfect waves, huge tubes and scores, Walsh placed 5th overall. Thats a great effort mate because it's a pretty big floor and everyone wants to dance there. O&E will love the photos.
Check this video of the tow in arvo. The guys paddling, including Walshy and Laurie Towner, are getting buckled !!

Anthony Walsh impressed the judges surfing Tahiti today in preparation for his round four heat tomorrow. Last year Walshy made the final at this event and won a wildcard into the Billabong Pro World Championship Tour event, hopefully he can repeat that performance tomorrow. Walshy as we all know, is a specialist at this wave , widely regarded as the world’s heaviest wave! Photo: Steve Robertson

O'Neill Highland Open

The O'Neill Highland Open starts on Wed. 23rd April at Thurso in Scotland. The event is a 6 Star Prime with big points and money. Adam Melling , currently 44th on the WQS surfs in heat 23 in the round of 96. Don't forget your vest and boardies mate.

UPDATE 23.4.08
Day one of The O’Neill Highland Open and it was an easy decision for contest director Matt Wilson to call a lay-day.

Speaking at Brims Ness – one of the possible contest sites – Matt said “It was a pretty easy call to make. We came down to Thurso East at 6am and there was absolutely nothing happening there. Then we headed to check Brims, which is basically the option when there is no other option and there was nothing happening there either.”

The surfers, now all congregated in the remote northern Scottish town of Thurso, are patiently waiting for the prediction of a favorable swell over the next few days.

UPDATE
Adam easily won his round 2 heat in perfect stand up pits at Brimms Ness and surfs next in heat 12 of the round of 48.

UPDATE 29.4
Adam made it through the round of 48. He surfs next in Ht 7 round of 24

UPDATE 16.4.08
Adam Melling has comfortably won his first heat in Sud Efrika and is into the round of 96. I reckon Pottz and Snake mentioned Fanning that much during his heat that Micks' manager should put Mello on a retainer. Good luck next round mate.

Update 17.4.08
Adam destroyed his opposition in his round of 96 heat today. With scores of 9.07 and 8.60 he had the other guys comboed in the end. Next up is the round of 48 Ht 8 against Izuki Tanaka (Jpn), Davy Weare (ex WCT) and Jordy Smith (freakshow). Pottz mentioned on the webcast that he reckons Mello will be the man to beat for this event.
That's a pretty good call I reckon.

UPDATE 20.4.08
Mello has finished 25th and scored 1050 WQS ratings points. That leaves him sitting at 44th on the WQS, heading to Scotland
