Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast presented by Land Rover will hold a waiting period from February 25 through March 7. Owen Wright and Adam Melling, ASP World Title ranked 3rd and 26th respectively will be there to kick off their 2012 campaign. Tyler Wright, ranked 4th in the world, will be in the Roxy event. Quiksilver King of the Groms will also be running at some time during the waiting period with Le-Ba groms Mikey Wright and Zac Wightman keen to charge a couple from behind the rocks. Good luck everyone.
Update Feb 25th
Tyler had a great first heat demolishing her opponents with wave scores of 8.40 and 9.30. Owen came from behind to win by 0.03 in the last 2 minutes with some tight backhand blasts. "It was a really tough heat! I was out of position for a while at the start, I tried to get a couple of quick scores but it didn't really work out. Then in the last 15 minutes I decided to wait and be more selective, and I got that wave that I got the score on and I was stoked because it had a nice wall on it. There was a couple of sections to do finners, so I thought I'd fin it to win it."
Mello lit it up from behind the rock and took out Parko and Dane - epic.
"It's feels great to win that one! I saw in the news and they were calling it the Dane verse Parko heat and I was thinking - what about me, I'm in this one too. Both of those guys surf unreal and I am happy to get the win, my boards are feeling good and my body is fit and I'm hoping for a big year.
Everyone through to round 3.

Update Feb 27th
Owen surfed really well to survive a tough heat vs Wilko, winning by 0.4 points and moving into round 4. "That was our first man-on-man heat on the world tour. I was really nervous before the heat, but once I got out there I felt comfortable. I knew he was going to get an 8-point-ride, and I knew I could answer straight back. We went wave for wave, score for score, there was nothing much in that heat. We were paddling in and none of us knew who won and I was just happy that one of us was going through to the next round."
Tyler absolutely smashed it again with scores of 8.77 and 7.43 and cruised straight into the quarters. In Mello's round 3 heat JW racked up a 9.57 and 9.00 which would look insurmountable to most but Adam answered back with a 9.13. In the end JW held priority until the hooter and Mello ran out of time chasing a score that was achievable considering the way he was surfing.

Update Feb 28th
Owen surfed amazing in round 4 but was beaten by Adriano by 0.24 . He cranked it up a notch in round 5 with a commanding win sending him to the quarters. In the Roxy Pro quarter finals Tyler comboed the 2011 World Champion with a massive 18.03 ( 9.60 and 8.43 ). Mikey had a great win in the KOTG semi needing a 7.20 he took off seconds before the hooter and nailed an 8.90. Zac was a bit unlucky in his semi where he couldn't finish a few big moves. What an incredible experience for the groms on surfing's biggest stage. ![]() |

Update March 5th
Owen looked to have his quarter final in the bag but had it snatched away in the final minutes and finished 5th. Same thing happened to Tyler in the semis and she finished 3rd. Both great results in the 2012 season opener. Mikey went ballistic in his KOTG final and smashed it for a huge win. "I was having fun, all you gotta do is have fun."
Congratulations to the Wright family.
