Update Feb 22nd
A great start to the event for the club with Tom and Mikey posting heat wins and the Pres coming 2nd. Day one of the 2013 Volcom Kirra Teams Challenge saw a vast change in conditions and a massive contrast in wave size from the morning heats to those surfed in the afternoon. The first few heats saw some nice 3-4ft runners peel down the point from little Marley through to Greenmount headland allowing competitors to reel off some great carves and cutties to achieve waves scores in the mid range. As the tide dropped the Rainbow Bay section decreased in size and became very sweepy & choppy. The start of Round 2 saw the first surfers venture out to the Snapper section which had previously been a close out. As the afternoon rolled on every team committed to the Snapper bank, which started to fire. At the end of the day Le-Ba held the lead equal with Kirra, Snapper and Coolum. Keep it up fellas.

At the end of the day Le-Ba finished 3rd taking home $2000 prize money and once again showing why we are regarded as one of Australia's best clubs. Well done to all the surfers and support crew.

2013 NSW Open State Titles Open Womens division was won by Steph Single at Sandshoes in southern Cronulla  in powerful three-foot waves today.Steph didn't drop a heat on her way to the final even scoring a 10 in her quarter final.Steph claimed the Westfield Miranda Wave Of The Day and scored a voucher to Westfield Miranda for her efforts. With a gusty southerly wind that began to tear through the lineup around lunchtime, all girls scratched into anything that moved. Newport's Holly Wawn held down the lead for a chunk of the heat until Steph caught a punchy little righthander that propelled her into first position.

"I was just having so much fun out there. I was looking to build my scores early with some mid-range fours and fives and to go from there."

Congratulations Steph !

Update Feb 9th
Mello and Owen both smashed it again today, putting in the sort of performance you would expect from seasoned WCT pro's. The fellas are both into the quarters ( final 8 ). Tyler was unlucky today losing out in her quarter by 0.3 .

Update Feb 10th
Owen defeated Mello in the Final of the Breaka Burleigh Pro. Both surfers wents nuts in their quarters and semis scoring multiple 9 + rides. Owen finished 1.30 points ahead of Mello who ran out of time chasing a 7.11.

“It feels great, I’ve put so much effort into training lately for the year ahead and I’m feeling fit and injury free and I’ve got the right boards – this is just part of what I want to do this year. It’s my first win since New York in 2011 and it’s important to get that winning feeling – I’m fully aware that this is a 4-Star event and the World Championship Tour is another serious step-up but I feel right to really have a crack at it this year” said Owen
“I’m pretty bummed on second place, the goofy footer got me, but it’s been a fun day, there were some great heats early today and I’m still pretty happy with that result –  I’m looking forward to Snapper,” said Melling.
Congratulations fellas.
