Update Sept 26th
Mello smashed his Round 1 heat ruling priority, surfing with power and combination of turns  making Dane and Slater chase him for 29 minutes. Unfortunately Old Baldy went ballistic on one just before the hooter and got the nod from the judges with Adam 2nd. He has another go in Round 2. Leo scored an 8.40 but couldn't find the back up to get past Kolohe. In Round 2 he was eliminated by 2x World Champ Mick Fanning.

Update Sept 27th
Adam fought hard in a tough heat against good mate Kai Otten but fell victim to the high tide slow down. Both surfers had a 9 and Mello was chasing an 8.58 , unfortunately time ran out and then the event was put on hold by the little French man. Bad luck mate, smash it in Portugal.

A great start to the event for Mello with a win in round 1. Adam ripped the bag out of the Lowers rights and never lost the lead over Ace and JFlo. He surfs next in round 3.

Update Sept 18th
Mello made the most of the weak conditions, putting together some really nice combinations and took the win over the current World Champ in round 3. Wahu Surfer Groms Comp, Coffs Harbour ran in punchy two-to-three foot waves at Diggers Beach over the weekend. Nathan McKenzie, Angus Baker, Dembe Ryan, Jack and Harry O'Brien headed South to Coffs to have a crack.
The Wahu Surfer Groms comps cater for the mini, mirco groms (U/8) to the big kids alike (U/14) of any level, and is all about providing a fun, but competitive environment. Over the years this series has provided our keen grommets their first chance at competing out of town against the next crew of up coming little rippers.
Harry O'Brien made the Under-8 Mixed final and finished 3rd. Jack O'Brien also finished 3rd in the Under-10 Boys. Congratulations fellas.

One of our members & also a Lennox Dolphins member entered a Tooheys competition last year for the 'New Crew' to come and finish off a club house in your community. The application is the club house at Williams reserve – controlled by Lennox Combined Sports Assoc (which Le-Ba is a member of) the nomination on behalf of the Lennox Dolphins (League) and Le-Ba ended up winning over hundreds across the state!
The Ballina shire council have agreed to change the usage – so the top level can be enclosed and we will soon have a combined club house with other sports groups from Lennox.
 • Tooheys are pumping about $90,000 into it – will feature on the Footy Show
 • Need labourers from all combined sports on the 8th and 9th of November.
 • Need to put the call out to all Le-Ba members to give a hand – keeping in mind we will be asking again when we start building the shed at the soccer ground.
 • Once complete we will be able to house all our trophies and memorabilia and have a place to hold meetings, functions and enjoy a cold Tooheys.

• Wednesday, 6 November– Thursday, 7 November 2013: Paul Gillespie and Tooheys New Crew builders work with local suppliers/builders to renovate club
 • Friday, 8 November 2013: Paul "The Chief" Harragon, Paul Sironen and David Peachey (TBC) arrive to assist with renovations. The Crew will also shout a few beers at various local pubs that night.
 • Saturday, 9 November 2013: The TNC and local volunteers work to finish renovations by midday. Around midday the Tooheys New Crew hand back completed renovations to the community and if it can be organised play a game of cricket against the community.
 • Sunday, 10 November 2013: Tooheys New Crew depart.

Update Sept 7th
Mello took control in the round of 16 and the Quarter Finals. He smashed Brother in his semi with a 16.60 heat total, matching the backhand attack and going more critical . In the Final Adam did the best he could in the crappy onshore conditions but could not find any waves that would allow him to get the score and finished 2nd. Mello gets 5200 ratings points and should secure his place on the 2014 WCT Tour. Congratulations mate.
“It’s a bummer that we didn’t get many waves at high tide, but I’m pretty happy, Tomas got me on that first exchange, that’s what set him up. I like power surfing and if you can do big turns on a small wave they’re going to love it so that’s what I was trying to do. I really wanted to get on the podium this time and get a positive vibe going through the next few events through Europe, it’s a good start and I’m looking forward to the next !”
